CECIL THOMAS—1926. The LEGEND. The number 1 pick of all Lenoir City sports fans and sports historians. Cecil was “just” a great athlete. He excelled in every phase of basketball and football. He was a big man, strong and fast. He played on both sides of the ball in football, (quarterback and linebacker) and played it well. He enters the Hall of Fame for both sports but is mostly known for his basketball play. He was All-East Tennessee in both 1924 and 1925. He was named All State in 1926, becoming the first player from Lenoir City to be selected for this honor. He was later honored with the CECIL THOMAS MEMORIAL TROPHY and had the high school football field named after him (CECIL THOMAS FIELD). He was elected as a charter member to the Hall of Fame in 1970. |
