WAYNE ANTHONY – 1959 Playing football, basketball and baseball at LCHS, he earned 12 letters. In football he played end, fullback, and quarterback, showing his versatility at each position. He was elected Captain his last year. He was member of the 1958 basketball State Champions and also the 1959 State Tournament team. In baseball, he played the outfield and catcher and was clean-up hitter his last year. On graduation, he received a scholarship to Vanderbilt University, where he lettered 3 years. He began coaching at Greenville High School and became head coach his fourth year. He then went to Jefferson County high, where, as offensive coordinator, they went to the playoffs several years and twice to the State Championship game, winning the State Championship in 1987. He retired from coaching in 1988, but continued to teach until 2001, when he returned to Lenoir City. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2005. |
