70 - Junior Collins

JUNIOR COLLINS - 1971

Junior Collins was a starting guard for 3 years in basketball and 3 years in baseball as an outfielder and pitcher. As a sophomore he was All District and All Region and repeated All District as a junior in basketball. As a senior, he was elected Captain of the basketball team and was All District, All Region, All Tri-State (players from Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama) and MVP.  He was the recipient of the Cecil Thomas Outstanding Athlete Award. Amazingly, he scored 41 points in 2 quarters and 3 minutes. That has to be a school record!! He compiled a 19.1 points per game average during his last year. He scored 1286 points during his 3 year LCHS career. He received a scholarship to Cleveland State Junior College where he started 2 years in basketball, averaging 12.4 points per game. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2007.
