INTERNET  TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 

The signature(s) at the end of this document is (are) legally binding and indicates the party (parties) who signed has (have) read the terms and conditions carefully and understand(s) their significance.

 

  1. Acceptable Use:  The use of the Internet and of your account must be in support of educational and research and consistent with the educational objectives of the school district.   Use of the organization's network or computing resources must comply with the rules appropriate for that network.
    1. Transmission of any material in violation of an U.S. or state regulation is prohibited.   This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material or material protected by a trade secret. 
    2. Use for commercial activities, product advertising or political lobbying is prohibited.
    3. Commercial Internet access programs such as AOL should not be installed or used on a school computer.  Use of such programs poses a potential violation by students of CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) requirements.

 

  1. Privileges:  The use of the Internet is privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of these privileges.  The system administrators will deem what is inappropriate use and their decision is final. The administration may close an account at any time as required.  The administration, faculty, and staff may request the technology director to deny, revoke or suspend specific user privileges.  Only the network administrator may assign IP addresses.  Network addressing will not be assigned to personal computers.

 

  1. Prohibited and Illegal activities: You are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette.  The following activities are specifically prohibited and will result in serious disciplinary action or dismissal:
    1. Sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures
    2. Using obscene or offensive language
    3. Harassing, insulting, defaming or attacking others
    4. Damaging computers, computer systems or computer networks
    5. Hacking or attempting unauthorized access to any computer or software
    6. Violation of copyright laws
    7. Trespassing in another's folders, work or files
    8. Intentional misuse of resources
    9. Using another's password or other identifier (impersonation)
    10. Use of the network for commercial purposes
    11. Downloading or installing software without authorization
    12. Unauthorized access to the school or district network

 

  1. Vandalism: Vandalism will result in a cancellation of privileges.  Vandalism is defined as malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user, Internet or other networks that are connected to the Internet backbone.  This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses or knowing dissemination of computer viruses.

 

  1. Security: Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the system involves many users. 
    1. Never share your password or account with anyone.  You have full responsibility for the use of your account, and can be held responsible for any policy violations that are traced to your account. 
    2. The attempt to obtain or override security passwords is considered a serious violation of acceptable use of a computer and the person involved will be subject to disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal.

 

  1. Exception of Terms and Conditions: These terms and conditions reflect the entire agreement of the parties and supersedes all prior oral and written agreements and understanding of the parties.  These terms and conditions shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Tennessee and the United States of America.

As the parent/guardian of ____________________________________, I have read the Terms and Conditions for Internet access.  I understand that this access is designed for educational purposes and the school system and the State Department of Education Office of Technology have taken available precautions to eliminate controversial material.  However, I also recognize that it is impossible to restrict access to all controversial materials acquired on the network.  Further, I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child's use is not in a school setting.

 

I hereby give permission for my child to use computer and Internet resources at school and certify that the information contained on this form is correct.
