Healthy Changes in Our School Cafeterias!
Dear Lenoir City Schools’ families,

The last several years, Lenoir City school cafeterias faced new federal nutrition standards for lunch and breakfast meals, ensuring that the meals offered to students contained milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins, and grains that met the following guidelines:

  • Portion sizes that met age-appropriate calorie limits
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of fruit or vegetable at lunch)
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
  • Trans-fat-free
  • All breads and grains must be whole grain-rich
  • Students must take at least one serving of fruit or vegetable at breakfast
  • Larger portions of fruit/vegetables must be offered at breakfast
  • Specific sodium levels (Target 1) must be met for breakfast and lunch
  • All snack items sold on campus (ala carte cafeteria items and items in vending machines, school stores, etc.) must meet new guidelines for nutrient content and portion size

We’re always working to offer Lenoir City Schools’ students healthier and tastier choices. School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families too! In your packet, you will find the meal prices for each school.

Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school lunch and breakfast!
