Lenoir City Schools is very excited to announce a partnership with Pediatric Choice to offer remote physician appointments, also known as Telemedicine!
How does this work?
Telemedicine consists of a partnership at our school clinic and a physician or nurse practitioner who together diagnose common medical conditions.
If a student comes to the school clinic complaining of a throbbing ear, the school nurse will contact the student’s parent to arrange for a telemedicine appointment. At a scheduled time during the day, the provider can diagnose the condition and prescribe medication, if needed. The student never needs to leave school, and you don’t have to leave work or worry about transportation.
Your child must be enrolled prior to treatment. You can enroll your child by filling out the required registration forms. The registration forms below are available to download and print.
Examples of problems that can be seen:
After the first check by the school nurse is done, she will call the parent to ask if it is OK to do the exam. At that time, the parent may ask to be there for the exam, or may join the visit by phone or computer.
Telemedicine is listed with TennCare as a covered service. Some private insurance carriers also list telemedicine (or telehealth) as a provided service. Please contact your insurance carrier to ensure that Telemedicine is covered under your plan.
The flat rate fee for a visit is $80. Pediatric Choice will bill you for this visit. All payments are established and collected by Pediatric Choice, NOT Lenoir City Schools.
If your child will need a prescription medicine, the nurse practitioner or school nurse will ask which pharmacy you use and if your child has any medication allergies. After getting all the information, the nurse practitioner will electronically send a prescription to your pharmacy.
If it turns out that your child needs more testing or an in-person visit, then they’ll need to be seen somewhere else (doctor’s office, urgent care, or emergency department). The provider can help guide you to the best place for your child to be seen.
Most insurance companies cover the visit as a normal office visit. All students are eligible for this program, and you do not need to be a patient of Pediatric Choice to participate. Please check with your health insurance company to see if they cover telemedicine visits.
